In recent years there has been a strong push by the left and liberals to do away with firearms of all kinds. Their ultimate goal is a gun-free society. Their thinking is that if there are no guns then there will be no gun violence. One of the recent Democratic Presidential candidates, Beto O’Rourke, was a proponent of a gun buy-back program. Of course, most Americans reject this draconian thinking as too far left and un-American; certainly, un-Constitutional. O’Rourke even said the government would go from door to door confiscating firearms. He lost support immediately upon that statement.
So, failing this, the gun-free leftists favor doing away with “assault rifles” as a start and they use as their reasoning that most mass shootings are done with so-called “assault rifles”. First, lets define the term “assault rifle” as used by the left. Leftists seem to go more on a gun’s appearance than its function. If a long rifle looks menacing and war-like, it should be outlawed. It is really a mindset of vicious appearance; if it looks like a bad gun, it must be a bad gun and should be banned.
But, gun enthusiasts and 2nd Amendment defenders say that what the left calls an assault rifle is nothing more than a single action rifle. They say that an assault rifle as used by the military is fully automatic, verses semi-automatic. The difference is fundamental; a semi-auto fires one round per one squeeze of the trigger whereas a fully automatic weapon fires multiple rounds with one squeeze of the trigger. In other words, it keeps firing as long as the trigger is held down and there is ammunition in the magazine or belt. They say that what the left terms assault rifles is really hunting and sport shooting firearms and that their appearance is not to be judged, but their function alone is to be addressed.
Even the President of the United States has come out saying that the problem of mass shootings is a mental illness issue and that background checks should delve more into the mental stability of a person attempting to acquire a firearm or firearm license. On face value this seems to be right thinking to most Americans, especially the 2nd Amendment gun enthusiasts on the right. But there is more here than mental illness that is the cause of recent decades’ mass shootings. Think of it, many of these mass shootings seem so ultra-savage and heartless, especially when schools are targeted. Is that a product of mental illness or as I suggest, is it a product of a more sinister and spiritual problem? I think that the people who do such ungodly things to fellow human beings without any remorse or conscience are acting on demonic possession. This is a spiritual problem and not a mental problem. I think it is called mental because secular people have no concept of demonic possession or demon activity in our devolving society. We are engaged in spiritual warfare in America and we don’t even recognize it.
Remember the first mass-shooting of recent years was the now infamous Columbine School shooting in Littleton, Colorado. Two teenagers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 15 people; 12 students, 1 teacher and themselves. They also planted bombs, but they failed to detonate. The Columbine School mass shooting seemed to ignite more mass shootings in America. The one that most people remember, the one that grasps the very heart of Americans most is the school shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The shooter, 20 year old Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children between the ages of six and seven years old. That touched the heart of all Americans and started the left’s rant for gun control even louder.
I pride myself as having the spiritual gift of discernment, a wonderful gift that enables me to see beyond the secular and see eternal spiritual implications. That being said, I have noticed that almost every one of the school shooters and mass shooters in general, all appear to have “demon-eyes” when they are shown on TV. I can see a deep emptiness in their soul. They say that the eyes are the window to the soul and I partly believe it, especially when it comes to these visual images of mass shooters. They all seem to be troubled and many even say they did what the “voices” were telling them to do. I contend that “the voices” were demonic voices in their souls that pressed them toward these heartless killings of their fellow man.
In the case of the Columbine shooting, you may recall, the two boys were homosexuals and anti-Christian in their actions. It was reported that they asked one of their victims if she was a Christian, and when she replied “yes” she was immediately shot and killed. Obviously, they were anti-Christ in their motives, which in my estimation is demonic.
On a TV show back in the 70s a comedian named Flip Wilson was famous for his saying, “the devil made me do it”. It was spun as comedy as he blamed the devil for his actions. That comical saying did indeed have real implications, but it was laughed off as funny at the time. I contend that it is the devils that make the mass shooters do it. Next time you see the shooter(s) on TV, notice their eyes. I often look at people’s eyes and it tells a lot about the person’s soul. Don’t laugh, but it seems to me that most of them have “black eyes”. I mean by that they have black eyes that lack the twinkle and sparkle of a healthy person’s soul. They are black as soot and seem “soul-less”. Notice for yourself and see if I am telling you the truth. It is not a coincidence; it is a fact. I am convinced that since this nation’s high courts took Bible reading and prayer out of the schools of America, this nation has declined spiritually. Now there seems to be a void of Christianity in the whole national culture whereas there used to be a presence of God in our national voice and actions. God has been kicked out of public life in America and we are seeing the results of it in these mass shootings and the incline of homosexuality and crime in America.
My wife and I were talking about this subject and she reminded me that you can’t legislate against evil nor can you legislate morality. That is because this whole matter of mass shootings is a spiritual problem and not a government problem. So, what is the answer to this dilemma? I contend that these things have grown to epidemic proportions in America because the Church has become ineffective in our society. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5 that we Christians are the salt of the earth. There was a time when Christians and Christianity were much more respected in America. But today this nation that used to be “One Nation Under God” has become “One Nation Against God” and we are ridiculed and mocked. As a matter of fact, out and out persecution is becoming more open and prevalent. We have lost our savor and the Lord says that salt that has lost its savor is to be thrown out and trampled under the foot of men. So, until Christ reigns in the millennium there is not much that we can influence in society today.
We can write our political leaders and put our two cents worth in, but the reality of that is, we have little influence in matters of the state. We can pray and make ourselves heard one on one to our fellows. We really need to pray that the Lord will return soon. President Trump can go on preaching his mental illness reasoning, but we know that it is a demonic thing. Peter said in 1st Peter 5:8 to “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour:”
Our enemy is the devil; he is walking about seeking to destroy; he is our adversary. What more do we need to know? We have an enemy in the spirit realm that is doing all this damage, but our secular society refuses to believe that anything can be spiritual. That might lead someone to believe in God, which they absolutely deny. We are engaged in spiritual warfare and these mass-shootings are just a sign of some of the damage that the devil and his demons are doing in the world today. The democrats and leftists can do nothing that will change it. They can take away all the guns in the world, but the enemy will develop another way to destroy God’s crowning creation. It will get worse.
